LDAP Là viết tắt của cụm từ Lightweight Directory Access Protocol. Đây là một giao thức cho việc lưu trữ trung tâm thống nhất và truy cập thông tin từ xa. LDAP như là một điểm duy nhất lưu trữ tất cả các thông tin về người dùng của Portal và sẵn sàng cho việc truy cập.
Portlet / Channel Là một kênh thông tin trong Portal. Đây là một thành phần Web riêng biệt, có một hoặc một vài chức năng cụ thể nào đó, giúp Portal hoàn thành chức năng nhiệm vụ cụ thể của mình. Mọi yêu cầu của người sử dụng với Portlet đều phải thông qua giao diện của Portal.
Portlet Container Là một chức năng quản lý hệ thống của Portal nhằm:
  • Cung cấp môi trường thực thi cho Portlet
  • Xác định và phân phối yêu cầu khai thác thông tin từ Portal đến đúng Portlet có khả năng giải quyết
  • Quản lý thời gian sống của các Portlet cài đặt trong hệ thống (khởi động và loại bỏ các Portal không cần thiết để giải phóng bộ nhớ cho hệ thống)
  • Gửi kết quả xử lý thông tin của Portlet cho Portal để chuyển giao cho người sử dụng
